Not everyone approves of horse meat in the butcher shop.
In a controversial move Monde Di Carne Butchers in Perth has added horse meat to the range available. Recent;y the WA minister for Agriculture and Food Terry Redman approved the slaughter of horse for human consumption. Although consumed around the world, it has never been sold for human consumption in Australia before. The demand for it is expected to mostly come from ethnic groups who have traditionally eaten it, and at least one high-profile chef has added it to his menu. The news has attracted criticism from some sectors however. A petition asking the government to overturn the approval has more than 2300 signatures.
